Project Overview
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Our work for the United States Olympic & Paralympic Museum included not only content for over 40 audio-visual and interactive exhibits, but also extensive collaboration and innovation in the realisation of the Museum’s stated ambition to be one of the most accessible and inclusive visitor experiences in the world.
Covering over 60,000 ft2 (5,500 m2), the Museum showcases not just the outstanding achievements of U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes, but also the dedication, expertise and technology that keep the successes coming.
It also offers visitors the chance to get a better understanding of the Games themselves; how it feels to compete, the history and global impact of the Games, and the meaning of the Olympic and Paralympic ideals.
Key to delivering this inclusive visitor experience was the use of RFID. After purchasing their ticket, visitors are given a lanyard, shaped like a backstage, access-all-areas credential from the Olympic or Paralympic Games. Their pass is then personalised, via a short onboarding process during which they can select additional audio and visual accessibility services to ensure that their journey is independent. Additionally, visitors are encouraged to identify sports that they enjoy, to allow us to tailor their content journey too, across all of the interactive experiences.
Visitors also collect ‘Digital Souvenirs’ such as captured photo moments as they participate in the sporting interactives, and bookmarked content showcasing their favourite sports, athletes and objects. These Digital Souvenirs are stored in each visitors’ very own online ‘Digital Locker’, which they can access via the Museum website after their visit.
