York's Chocolate Story
Sweet History of York, UK
Project Overview
PROJECT OVERVIEW
We created a range of AV and interactive interventions to support the guided tour which takes visitors through 4,000 years of chocolate history.
The 'Origins' 160-degree AV show is designed as a dramatic introduction to the history of chocolate production from its distant origins in Mayan society, to its arrival in York in the 1700s.
Using ultra high-resolution cameras we filmed a number of live action scenarios in a ‘green screen’ studio involving native warriors and Spanish Conquistadors.
Background rainforest ‘plates’ were then shot at Kew Gardens. These elements were then composited together and combined with 3D environments to create an evocative Central American world, without leaving the UK.
‘Founding Families’ is a series of animated talking portraits that provide the visitor with an insight into the personality and contributions of some of York’s most famous confectioners.
Characters were filmed against green screen and embedded within realistic environments appropriate for their period. The portraits interact with each other and the visitor guide, providing an innovative and intriguing take on the concept.
