'Going Subsea'
Norwegian Oil Museum, Stavanger, Norway
Project Overview
PROJECT OVERVIEW

Going Subsea is a new exhibition at Norwegian Petroleum Museum in Stavanger aimed at 11–16-year-olds. We developed a series of AV and interactive media to tell the story of oil in new and engaging ways. The main feature is an immersive projected  show ‘The Well’ which takes visitors on  an  exciting journey to the depths of subsea to discover the innovative technologies being used in oil and gas production.

The physical space utilises a 7 x 7 metre and a 5 x 5 metre cube as the foundations for the display area. Content is projected onto all 10 sides of the Well with a multi-channel soundtrack to immerse the audience in subsea world. Throughout the 8.5 minute show additional layers of interpretation can be activated by visitors via motion sensors to provide supporting information and context to the installation.

Working on international projects during a pandemic has its challenges, we solved this by creating the museum space in a virtual world to enable us to preview the AV using VR headsets.  This virtual platform allowed us to preview in real time with our clients in Norway and move forward without the physical face to face mock-ups that would typically take place for this type of complex 10 projector installation.

We also created three touchscreen mini games, designed to help visitors understand the complex world of subsea technology and bring it life with authentic, hands-on challenges. The mini games ask visitors to build a template on the sea floor, manage an active pipeline and use a drone to scan the subsea for hazards to build a new, safe and profitable pipeline.
